This classic Tanzanian safari is designed to witness the Great annual wildebeest migration. Although sightings can never be guaranteed, due to their nomadic behavior, our travel designers will put you in the prime locations while our rangers will get you close to the full actions. Your safari journey begins in Ngorongoro Crater, approximately 2.5 million years old caldera, which today becomes an enclosed natural ecosystem and shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Moving into the exclusive Singita Grumeti, you will spend your days on game drives exploring Tanzania’s largest private reserve. The entire African big five can be found here and when in luck, you can enjoy a first glimpse into the legendary wildebeest river crossings. Finally, spend the last couple of nights in one of our favorite mobile tented camps that will put you footsteps away from the main show
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will receive a warm welcome from our representative and enjoy a private transfer to Arusha. Take it easy tonight, satisfy your appetite with a delicious selection of home-baked cakes and an array of hot coffees made from locally grown beans and spend a restful overnight at this attractive little town
Located midway between Arusha and Ngorongoro Crater National Park, Lake Manyara is often used as a pit stop – but it certainly deserves more. The region features an incredible wealth of habitats from acacia woodlands to a tranquil soda lake and bubbling hot springs. Your safari guides will take you into the thick forests where the legendary tree-climbing lions lived along with tusked elephants and troops of African primates. We will also hunt for grazing wildebeests and zebras near the lakeshore, visit a crowded hippo pool and – when in season – admire the huge flocks of pink flamingos hanging out in the soda water.
Once a gigantic volcano, Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact caldera in the world whose floor today covers an area of 260 square kilometers and housed more than 30,000 animals. Game drives at the Crater floor will give you a fantastic opportunity to see the African Big Five: Lions, leopards, elephants, African buffaloes, and the rare, endangered rhinoceroses. To the east, you will find Gorigor Swamps filled with happy pods of hippos while the shallow Lake Magadi is the perfect spot for bird watching from flamingoes to ostriches, crowned cranes, tawny eagles and many more
Take a guided walk to the Ngorongoro Western rim to truly appreciate the beauty of this otherworldly landscape. This easy-paced walk begins in a dense forest and later opens up to thickets and vast grasslands. Your guide will introduce you to numerous medicinal plants as well as pointing out fresh animal tracks along the way. The exciting conversations will end when you reach the final viewpoint. It is really hard to find the right word to describe the majestic view in front of you; the remarkable crater to your right and view of Olduvai Gorge and Serengeti to your left. Your guide will let you soak in the silence before taking you back down the same route.
The largest concession in Tanzania, 350.000 acres of untouched wilderness and a migratory corridor for herds of wildebeests, Singita Grumeti Reserve offers one of the most exclusive safari experiences in Africa. The park is shared only by three lodges which means that you can stay away from the crowd and enjoy a more intimate wildlife spotting. The great migration of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles passes through the land in May and June but even outside those months, you can still enjoy a fantastic game viewing. The Big five can all be found here along with cheetah, hippos and giant crocodiles.
Rise early and soar above the majestic Serengeti Plains on this unforgettable hot air balloon ride. While the ride is controlled by the morning wind, your pilot can precisely control the altitude of the balloon – sometimes at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below. As the sun comes up, its rays will reveal the incredible actions below: back and forth wildebeest seeking the most succulent grazing, crocodiles patiently waiting in the river and the lion, cheetah, and hyena sneaking through the bushes.
Venture to the heart of the Great Wildebeest Migration on a mobile tented camp and get a front-row seat to all the thrilling actions. Your camp moves around Serengeti National Park for few times during the year in an attempt to anticipate the wildebeest movement. This will also give you the most authentic version of Tanzanian safari where you can directly step out to the unfenced wilderness, chasing nearby animals during the day and cluster around a roaring campfire to share stories under millions of shining stars.
